ESOL Classes

Three cycles of basic ESOL classes are offered annually. Students are provided with a strong and immediately applicable foundation in the English language which students can use on the job and on daily tasks.

Days and Time

Basic

Option 1: Tuesday & Thursday 6:30pm – 8:30pm from August 29th to December 21st. Price: $50.

Option 2: Wednesday & Friday 6:30pm – 8:20pm from August 30th to December 22nd. Price: $50.

Option 3: Tuesday & Thursday 11:00am – 1:00pm from August 29th to December 21st. Price: $50.

Option 4: Wednesdays 10:00am – 1:00pm from September 13th to December 13th. Price: $50. Only available to women who have been approved by the proficiency exam conducted by the professors. Test is only available through appointment, and examination dates are:

  • September 6th, 11:00am – 1:00pm
  • September 7th, 6:30pm – 8:30pm
  • September 8th, 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Basic/Intermediate

Option 1: Wednesday and Friday 6:30pm – 8:30pm from August 30th to December 22nd. Price: $50.

Option 2: Tuesday and Thursday 6:00pm – 9:00pm from September 12th to January 25th. Price: Free! Only available to students who have been approved by the proficiency exam conducted by the professors. Test is only available through appointment, and examination dates are:

  • August 22nd, 6:30pm – 8:30pm
  • August 24th, 6:30pm – 8:30pm
  • August 31st, 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Option 3: Wednesdays 10:00am – 1:00pm from September 13th to December 13th. Only available to women who have been approved by the proficiency exam conducted by the professors. Test is only available through appointment, and examination dates are:

  • September 6th, 11:00am – 1:00pm
  • September 7th, 6:30pm – 8:30pm
  • September 8th, 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Program Duration

All levels last a total of 17 weeks.

Adult Literacy and Basic Education in Spanish

In collaboration with the National Institute for Adult Education (known as INEA for its Spanish acronym), Mixteca offers literacy, primary and secondary education to adults. For many in our community this is the first experience of an academic setting and for others it is a bridge to higher education.

Days and Time

Basic Literacy
Saturday 10am-2pm
Primary & Secondary Education
Saturday 10am-4pm

Program Duration

The program lasts a total of 40 weeks.

Computer Basic Skills

The course focuses on developing basic skills in Windows and Microsoft Office. Access to computers and the Internet is often a limited commodity to our community and Mixteca’s Computer Lab is seen as a great resource.

Days and Time

Level 1
Wednesday & Friday 6pm – 8pm
Level 2
Tuesday & Thursday 6pm – 8pm

Program Duration

Level 1 lasts a total of 5-7 weeks.
Level 2 lasts a total of 7-9 weeks.
