HIV Counseling & Testing

Mixteca Organization, Inc’s staff have been trained and certified by the NYC DOHMH to offer confidential counseling, oral HIV antibody testing and referrals for HIV treatment. Because of the Mixteca Organization’s trusted role in the community, individuals are comfortable sharing information about high-risk behaviors such as multiple partners, prostitution, drug-use and same sex sexual experiences. ¡Amigas! - Women's HIV Prevention Group

The organization's experience with HIV testing has shoun that women in the Mexican and Latin American immigrant community have been less likely to use the HIV testing services. This is a serios concern at a time when HIV rates among Latina women are on the rise. With support from our founders Mixteca Organization, Inc has designed a 7-session HIV group intervention for women. The ¡Amigas! program gives special consideratin to the traditional norms and values that impact recent Mexican and Latina immigrant women's relationships, behavior, and lives and sets forth to promote achievable and culturally relevant HIV prevention skills and strategies.
