IMMIGRANT RIGHTS PROGRAM

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS WORKSHOPS

We offer Know Your Rights (KYR) workshops in Spanish and/or English! Do you have a group or place where the workshop can be organized? Let us know! Our KYR workshops may combine several topics as seen below and/or expand on a particular topic, depending on the group needs, questions and concerns:

  • Updates on policies and laws for immigration

  • Know your Rights when facing immigration official

  • Family emergency planning

  • Stress and personal care techniques

Year-round, we also offer other specific immigration-related topics. Follow us on Facebook or visit our events page to stay in the loop.

CONSULATE ON WHEELS

Mixteca partners several times a year with the Consulate General of Mexico in New York to host its innovative Consulate on Wheels Program, helping thousands of community members access passports and other vital documentation.

For confirmation dates, please call us at 718-965-4795 or follow us on Facebook for real-live updates. In order to receive the service you must have an appointment prior to the dates. The appointments are free, and may be scheduled by dialing the toll free number 1-877-639-4835, or online here.

PROMOTORAS PROGRAM

The Promotoras program was developed after the 2016 Presidential election to ensure that our community be prepared for and supported during these difficult and uncertain times. Participants in the “Promotoras” Project are women from the community that have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, community organizing, and receive training on topics related to immigrant justice during a 12-session series.

Interested participants will have to attend an orientation where they will be briefed on the program details, commitment timeline, and application process. For questions on this program, call us at 718-965-4795.

IMMIGRATION ADVOCACY GROUP

Our Immigration Advocacy Group learns and discusses the rapidly changing policies and updates on immigration to best support the community in organizing Know Your Rights Workshops or other relevant immigration-related events, participate in meetings or coalitions, and contribute to advocacy efforts at Mixteca.

For more information on how to join, read more about it in our volunteer page or contact Janet Perez at volunteers@mixteca.org
